Is there any way to make my Surface tablet, running Edge showing the front-end (which is also running my VM in VirtualBox), to play a notification sound right from my tablet? Example: water leak sensor triggers, or the wife comes home. I just want it to play a sort of ring tone that would alert anybody in the house. We have iPhones set up with companion, but may not have them on us while we’re home. It may also just be so simple that there’s no need to have posted something specific for it. So if that’s the case, I could someone just point me in the right direction?
I’ve scoured the internet for somebody to have posted a solution to my situation, but haven’t found anything, not including the whole google/Alexa TTS thing.
I think you could use the Music Player Daemon (MPD) - Home Assistant integration to make this. But first you have to install in your surface tablet. I believe they have windows apps please check Download the Music Player Daemon
After this you can use media player service to play a local file. i dont have experience with this in windows but I have using the same setup with my debian systems.
Ok I’ll give it a go! Would this play audio from home Assistant Lovelace, or from the Daemon player on my surface?
It will play from the daemon player on your device. For this to work you should have the daemon player running. Usually in debian, we run it as a service so it automatically starts at boot. In windows, you may have to add this to startup, so that it will run automatically.
I found the Windows mdp.exe file to run, but it only flashes a command window. Task manager doesn’t show any process or service running related to it
In debian the mopdiy mpd runs in the terminal window like below.
I’m not familiar with that stuff yet. I got setup with VLC and I’ll try that way yet, but I’m not sure how to get my audio speaker passed through to VirtualBox.
I found this Browser_Mod, which I think could work. I don’t think it requires any sort of hardware adjustments
Browser mod should also work. I am also using it.
