Notification Behavior - Am I missing something?

I have a camera that sends a notification to my IOS app with a picture when motion is detected.
If I am actively using my phone and get a notification I can slide down and see the picture, but if the phone is locked I can not slide down and if I unlock my phone, I am only able to push the notification which brings up the App itself.
Is there a way to access the notification with the picture again?

On my locked screen, I swipe the notification to the left and get Manage, View, Clear All options, if there is thumbnail, click View to see picture. Sometimes there is no thumbnail and no picture attached with the notification with my camera motion detection notify, probably the picture was not snapshot or sent correctly.
