NVIDIA Shield Remote Button Remap to Home Assistant?

Is it possible to remap a physical button on the NVIDIA Shield tv remote to a function in home assistant?

For example, I’m using Emulated Roku on Home Assistant to control my JVC Projector (IR not supported on shield for JVC) and have hue lights. I’d like to remap a button to power on/off the JVC (via emulated roku) and another for lights in the room. Similar functionality fo Harmony, but gives user ability to use the awesome and simple shield 2019 remote instead.

It’s running Android TV, so Button Mapper works on the OS. I’m using Button Mapper now to disable the NETFLIX button. Just haven’t figured out to get HA to listen for certain button presses on the remote and run automations. Is this possible?

Did you get anything done here?

I didn’t find an obvious way to map buttons to specific HA scripts or automations, but instead used the Android TV integration status to trigger automations for turning the lights off and on based on play and pause status respectively. It works well, but it’s definitely not a harmony remote replacement.

You could use the “Button Mapper” application to run scripts etc. Which would allow you to make HTTP requests.
