Observations on how to keep finicky 2.4g iot devices connected. lifx users take note

After moving a couple things around, I had 2 pi zero’s that just would not stay connected. I should say they showed as connected in unifi but were unreachable otherwise.

After going through so many settings/balancing ap’s nothing was working. In a last ditch effort I set the 2.4 band channel width to 40. This is something that typically introduces problems, not in my case.

After switching over everything has been steady, I have quite a few esp’s connected to those ap’s. Stable before, stable after. The interesting thing is a lifx z strip that I had long given up on. With the switch to 40, it is way more stable than it’s ever been.

Everyone’s environment is different so while this might not be a solution for everyone, it worth a shot when all else has failed.

  • the pi’s are template sensors listening to an mqtt topic, so grey is unreachable. 2A was changed after I saw the result of 3B.

I am a full ubiquity/unifi setup and I have had problems with my shelly motion sensors since the last update. I increased the 2.4 GHz to 40 and magically they started working again. Many thanks!
