Obsidian Notes

Suggesting an Add On to Home Assistant that would run Obisidan notes from anywhere in the browser using HomeAssistant Ingress.

What’s the benefit?

I think the benefit is ingress.

There is a docker implementation of Obsidian Remote. GitHub - sytone/obsidian-remote: Run Obsidian.md in a browser via a docker container.

There is also a how to on Addons in developers.home-assistant.io. Perhaps you should just go for it @ubergoober

I support this feature request very much!

Home Assistant is such a huge hub for information, of course mostly for the home but also for other information, such as calendars.

Obsidian is my ‘brain notebook’, and being able to access it from Home Assistant would be a great feature.

Then we can also change the name from ‘Home Assistant’ to ‘Life Assistant’!

Why not just use the app?

To have the ‘permanent record’ in HA (and backups).
Also no need for sync between devices.

Plus it is easier to share some notes with same home users, something that is not very straightforward using Obsidian

All of these things seem like standard ObsidianMD features, with Syncthing added for sync.

For me, I stay at home and manage the house, so it would be cool if the app I use to control the house had some integration with the information I need to control the house.

For day to day stuff this could look like checking off a “laundry” or “vacuum” task on my daily note when those connected devices are run. This could also help my adhd brain when I see that “washer” was checked off but “dryer” never was because I was busy when the “cycle complete” message came in and I forgot to move stuff to the dryer

A bigger example: we’re moving in a few months and that’s a big project being managed in obsidian. It would be cool to be able to see notes that correspond to the areas of my house in the respective area on the dashboard, like to-do lists or contents of packed boxes

I imagine a lot of this is already possible to some extent between the option to run obsidian in docker as mentioned above, and using the advanced URI plugin paired with triggers to append text to the daily note. I’m definitely going to look into it.

This came up when searching for obsidian-home assistant integration, but the description of “why” here is a little shaky, so I thought I’d elaborate.

Myself and many others use Obsidian as a notes and task management system, similar to Google tasks or todoist. The use case for some kind of sync (specifically sync of active obsidian tasks) is similar to having any other todo list in HA.

My personal use case would be showing tasks tagged with a “home” location on ESPhome devices managed by HA or on a smart mirror in my apartment, so I am reminded of those tasks once I’m physically at home.

Having taken a cursory look at the API exposed by the tasks plugin it seems to be possible, but unfortunately looks pretty involved - some kind of simpler sync would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
