Obstacles Migrating Devices from SmartThings to Home Assistant

I’ve been running side-by-side installations of ST and HA for about a year now, but there are two things that have tripped me up terribly.

  1. Home Assistant Cloud disappearing from the Configuration menu and no way to restore. I followed the advice of every thread here to no avail. Only solution was a reinstall. Twice.

  2. Support for my GoControl garage door openers and my Hank 4-way buttons (HKZW-SCN04-V1.0). Both use Device Handlers in ST that I added via the graph.api web site.

I’m so shell-shocked from fighting with these, that it has put me off of HA. I would like to fully migrate, but it’s been more painful than I expected. I am super impressed with the instantaneous response from my local HA install, which is was drew me in the first place. The ability to run on Debian with the Nortek USB stick for Z-wave and Zigbee is fantastic. With caution and backups when working in YAML, I think I can avoid #1.

Regarding #2, should I look for alternate relays and buttons that have better support in HA? I did get Triggers working with my buttons by examining * Events under Developer Tools, but it’s a pretty heavy lift and not supported in the UI (unless there is something equivalent to a Device Handler that I have not learned). I don’t want to have code custom triggers. I’m terrified to even mess with my IKEA blinds and my wife’s office lights because they work well in ST with webCoRE.

Encouragement and advice on this migration journey is much appreciated.
