Odroid M1 ethernet packet loss?

Recently got an Odroid M1 to install HAOS on. Unfortunately the ethernet interface doesn’t seem to work well: I get 30-50% packet loss when I try to ping it. Does anyone have an idea what’s going on here?
I’m using HAOS 18.2.

I’ve tried:

  • Using a different power source (both are not the official power source but both should provide more than enough power).
  • Connecting via a different port on the switch
  • Connecting directly to my laptop via an USB-ethernet adapter (with the connection set as “shared with other computers” to skip the switch entirely, in the unlikely case the switch itself is broken even though it works perfectly fine with other devices).
  • Connecting via a WiFi dongle (this worked, but I would like to have an ethernet connection instead).

Does anyone have an idea what else I could try? Or should I ask for replacement? This is starting to look like a hardware problem.

One more thing you could try is to live boot from a Ubuntu USB stick and try pinging with that running. If you still have the issue I would say it’s hardware related.

Try capping the adapter to 100Mbps/FE. I have the same issue when using 1GbE.

@fleskefjes thanks! I’ll try that (once I have a USB keyboard, which I currently don’t have).

@DaanVervacke how would I do that?
If it can’t do the promised 1G I still consider that a failure though, that’s the speed I was promised when buying this device.

update: installed Ubuntu 22.04 on it (image from Odroid), and now it works perfectly fine. So it doesn’t seem to be a hardware problem. I’ll investigate further…
