Open new encrypted backup file?

I always created backups without encryption, and encrypted them myself for storage. The new UI seems to not allow unencrypted backups. I preferred unencrypted backups because I could open the files and do comparisons of my Node Red configuration when I made a mistake.

Does this new backup still need this special tool linked below, or can I now use 7Zip to decrypt it? I never used this tool before, I found it easier to save it unencrypted, and encrypt it with my own workflow.

I, too, would like to know how to decrypt backups. It would be better to not encrypt them at all, of course.
