Is there already some intégration/… to detect provide the window open/closed state or at least and event that a window sas opened based on humidity and/or temperature changes?
Humidity drops drasticly when a window is opened and generally rises slowly when it is closed.
Temperature changes are more subtle unless its quite cold outside.
My main goal is to get a notification that a windows has been open for too long and ideally remove the notification when the window is closed.
I already track humidity using the dew point (using Thermal Comfort.
We can notice the fast humidity drop and slight rise.
I have no information about an integration which does your required “out of the box”.
Never the less, the threshold sensor with combination of derivative sensor should be exactly what you needed.
The example section in the documentation describes a very similar use case than yours (set a binary sensor - window open/closed, based on temperature rising/falling): Threshold - Home Assistant (home-assistant.io)
The derivative sensor could be a first approach, but I think there is some fiddling involved: how much, how fast, hot/cold seasons, exterior/interior humidity offset impact.
true - but these are soooo specific for every use case …I think you really will have to check, record / try & error.
I am personally still in the process of getting to the full/best solution for my washing machine power detection after 7 months, because every time I think it works great, my wife finds a new washing program to try
I’am past that - we use only a few programs of a machine that’s only 25 years young and I repaired its valve last year - a piece that is so cheaply made that it is still basically the same on modern machines, including a dishwasher I bought 2 years ago.
As far as the window goes:
I found a research paper I shared on Github;
There are ways to do it generically - I know of a zigbee regulator valve that has a windows open detection in it
