Recently started expanding my home things into the whole zwave world. Early on i went with the old zwave component but decided that if i’m going to add more zwave stuff i should make the switch to the newer openzwave beta.
I’m used to beta things but man, this thing is earrrrrly times. Parts of it are great! Things certainly work nicer in openzwave when they do work. Then there’s the other side:
- I’ve got an rpi4 and an aeotech zstick with a cheap usb hub as a workaround for the rpi4 issues. sometimes the usb device disconnects which removes all my zwave devices from homeassistant and then i have to reboot the hass.io host to get everything back
- During device refresh, sometimes the zwave network goes into a “failed” state and i have to reboot the openzwave addon.
- After devices come back, sometimes they don’t come all the way back, the nodes don’t display the device names. Even though the node is in the “complete” stage i can’t control it. Currently experiencing this with one of the three locks i’ve got setup, but they’re all the exact same lock.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do to try to fix up these things? when it was just rebooting the device from time to time that was easy enough but now that things are disappearing it feels like i should just switch back to the old zwave for now.
EDIT: So i decided that the disconnects were most likely an issue with the hub/zwave stick combo, went ahead and i’ve switched everything over to a Zooz ZST10 S2 Z-Wave Plus USB Stick, so far things seem FAR FAR better. I’ll update as things go.
