Please find below the 3 json files. I Reseted the otthing unit and this improved a lot. Did not do this prior. Now still switching the boiler is still not working. Hopefully the files gives you some answers. Thank you so much for your reply
While waiting for access; when you set the topic …chMode1/set, can you see something (MQTT) on the log page?
Please also provide the log; go to the log tab, let run for some minutes and hit save log button.
Yess you see the MQTT messages in the log
Thank you for the log! We are getting closer! Please hit save button so that OTthing reinits OT communication and again wait a view minutes and send this log again. Thank you for your effort!
Would be nice if everybody could report a short PM with boiler / room unit brand and model working with OTthing, I would like to create a list with working devices.
Hello Stefan, no traditional boiler here but I have a full electric heatpump that communicates with a opentherm thermostat, a Honeywell Home Chronotherm Touch. I already have a lot of data and control over the heatpump by using modbus but the heating part that is completely run by the thermostat. I was thinking of having your otthing in between, the thermostat can do its thing but i would like HA also be able to set the temperature both of the heating and hot water preparation. Do you think that would be possible with the otthing ?
Hello Stefan,
I have installed Othing and can confirm that it works with an ELCO Euron 12 HG in conjunction with a QAA73 room thermostat.
Repeater mode.
Three questions:
What is hidden in the GUI behind OTC under Heat/Cool?
And: I have entered times for the temperature reduction for HK1 and hot water in the QAA73. Are these taken over by Othing, i.e. passed on in repeater mode?
For an automation that switches the flow_temperature of HK1 to off when the window is open:
alias: HEATING OFF FK
description: ‘’
triggers:
- type: opened
device_id: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
entity_id: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
domain: binary_sensor
trigger: device
conditions:
actions: - action: climate.turn_off
metadata: {}
target:
entity_id:
- climate.otthing_flow_temperature
data: {}
mode: single
This appears to be working. Mqtt Explorer shows the change in the topic /chMode1/set. Is there a better approach?
jan
Hi, I think this should work, the chronotherm is not explicitely for heatpumps only so I’d say yes.
Hi Jan,
- The OTC (outside temperature compensation) option just sets a bit and sends it to the boiler, it’s up to it what it is doing with it.
- Switching times are not sent over the OT bus, it is just used internally by your room unit by changing to flow temperature.
- Automation looks ok
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
Does OT Thing accept commands on the API endpoints /status or /config to update setpoint temperature? I would like to have some Shelly Scripts provide the command directly from the Shelly Device without the MQTT broker inbetween.
Regards,
Hi,
at the moment not. I will think about it.
Hello,
I’ve just installed OTthing on a De Dietrich MPX 24/29 MI compact with AD304 room unit.
Everything seems to be working fine on the status page, I’ve yet to configure HA integration.
I see there are a lot of options since latest firmware updates, do you have any documentation or resources I should check? For example the PI and hysteresis values.
Do you recommend using the Master configuration or repeater? Actually I’m doing everything with the AD304 but I want ultimately to use scheduling features of HA, disable heating when no one is home or when a window is open, that sort of thing.
But I want the room unit to display actual room temp and set temp like before.
Anyway thanks a lot for this work!
Hi,
try it with the master mode while enabling the slave interface, this way you will have maximum control. Further information about the PI controlled room compensation can be found on the projecthomepage.
Hi Stefan
My boiler (ATAG economiser 27+) is working fine with Drayton Wiser OpenTherm integration.
However, this does not retrieve the heating circuit pressure data. When this falls too low, the boiler will raise a fault and stop operation until the circuit is repressurised.
Could I add your device in parallel with Wiser hardware as read only so that I can retrieve this missing data?
You could set the OTthing in between and set it to master mode with activated slave interface.
Ah! OK thank you.
I can’t connect to my Brotje WHBS22D gas boiler and my new OtThing.
I don’t have an OpenTherm room thermostat, only an On-Off floor heating strip module that turns on the boiler if any room controller requests heating
I bought it for its digital input and want to connect an on-off signal from the underfloor heating strips there so the boiler turns on. Unfortunately, after connecting the OT switch to the boiler and the OtThing to the boiler, OpenTherm communication doesn’t work. I previously had a DIY Thermostat 3 and an OTGW gateway WiFi, and both connected fine via OpenTherm. Additionally, the knobs on the boiler are working, which indicates that OpenTherm isn’t working in my Brotje and OtThing.
Hi,
Thanks, I’ve been fiddling with it for a few days and I think I achieved a correct configuration.
Master mode with slave interface is indeed the way to go, as I get maximum control over the boiler, and every info (flame status, temps) is still displayed on the room unit.
However I had to completely disable temperature control from the room unit (by switching from auto to MQTT) because it kept sending temp orders at random times, thus overriding what I set using HA.
I have a few more questions:
- what is “DHW blocking” option?
- what is “member ID” option?
- what is the difference between the heating surface exponent in Dimensioning and the gradient in Heating curve? Should I set them on the same value? I searched for information about it, I know understand how to set the heating curve but I from what I read those parameters seems similar.
- I read on the project page about the PI controller, I (basically) understand the theory, but how I do know which values I have to put? Or shoud I leave it off for now?
