Hi,
I’ve got a door with a motorized lock and no outside handle, and for now I stuck an nfc tag near the door to open it through HA.
That works fine, but having to take out and unlock the phone every time isn’t really easier than using the key, even when I manage to align it straightaway which is rare.
I was thinking the ideal would be something we can trigger using a foot, that way the door could be opened easily even when carrying something. A button won’t do authentication of course, but I could easily tie the alarm status, time of day and home / away status to enable or disable that button. Kind of like a virtual handle allowing us to leave the door unlocked, in a way.
I’m essentially looking for a battery operated button (or a zigbee green device would be awesome, although I’ve never tried them) big enough to be pushed in by a shoe, and weatherproof since it’ll be outside.
Zigbee or bluetooth are fine, I guess I could start on z wave if I had to.
I know frient has an outdoor zigbee switch but it looks like it might be a bit small for a shoe. Tuya has one that looks interesting, but there’s no stock anywhere but aliexpress and that’d take forever, but that’s always an option.
I considered a vibration sensor but ultimately kicking the door would leave marks, doesn’t seem like a great idea.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
