Outdoor smart plug for Christmas lights, Recommendations?

Starting to think about setting up Christmas lights, but j have no smart plug for outdoors. I live in a wintery/snowy area so I need something rated for the cold. Not looking for anything fancy just an on and off function for 2 or 3 plugs. Any recommendations?

Zwave? Zigbee? WiFi? What’s your preference?

Great question!
WiFi preferably.

I’m curious to see what you come up with. I have two outdoor cameras on smart plugs, but they’re protected under a porch roof from rain and snow. Not sure how they’ll like the cold though.

I just searched on Amazon for “Smart outdoor Christmas light plug” and the first three were WiFi. One is a Kasa device. I’ve been playing with a couple of indoor Kasa smart plugs with good results so far. I may be grabbing one of these myself.

My suggestion would be the TP-Link KP400 WiFi outdoor plug. It has two receptacles and support for it was just added to Home Assistant in the latest release 0.101 - just in time for Christmas!!! That is what I just purchased and plan on using.

Anything on the ‘outdoor plug’ section of this site would work well: https://blakadder.github.io/templates/plug.html

Nice site there. Lots of info.
So could anyone tell me where to look for info on how to start the integration of one of those plugs into HA?
Is this something that needs to be cracked open and soldered or no?
I have a couple esp8266 units in esphome, but nothing else wifi yet so I’m very green on this.
Thanks
