Is there a ready-to-go speaker that HA can send MP3s sounds? WiFi preferably. I currently have an ESP8266 device that works via MQTT and grabs MP3s on an internal HTML page. It’s a customized thing and it makes clicking static noises all the time even when no sounds are sent to it. I wanted something more stable. The use of this is not for music but for alerts like flooding, open doors, etc.I run HA in VM so definitely can’t use USB because it’s problematic doing the VM USB passthroughs.
Hello gazoo,
I use Google Home Pucks.
Is that local based or cloud? Looks like cloud.
With esphome you can make a very good netwerk speaker that is seen in HA as a media player.
Use a esp32-s3 and a MAX98357A. For about $10,- you are settled.
I have 3 of them here. If you like i can share the config for it
I would be very interested. I’m trying to assemble an intercom/paging system for a small school (non-profit = very tight budget). We would like to page individual classrooms and initiate 2-way conversations (I know, also need a microphone), but also page groups of classrooms for class breaks and also school-wide for emergency situations. Having addressable speakers seems like the right approach. I have some ESP32 and RPi experience.
It looks like I’ll stick with what I have. I tried to find it but the website is gone now. It was a demo for the Catalex YX5300 chip.
The cheapest way to do that including intercom function is with a 2e hand xap800 box. Up to 8 units can be connected.
I have one running at home with 10 rooms with speakers and 5 microfoons.
