Override system dark mode

I see the Android app now uses dark mode if that’s set on your phone

Is there a way to override that? I have dark mode set overall on my phone, but don’t like the way the default HA UI looks in dark mode.

I like having dark mode set for the overall phone UI - the notification shade and other system menus - but then have most of my apps set to use the normal, light theme.

Many apps - such as those from Google and Microsoft - give you an option in the app to choose whether to take the theme from the system:

It would be great to have this as an option.

The option is already there. Check your profile (circle icon bottom of the left side menu).

That only affects the web site, and some of the controls. In the app, the overall theme seems to be coming from the phone’s system setting. I’ve tried setting the profile theme to light, and it doesn’t make any difference.

In fact, in the phone app when I tap on “light” in the theme setting under profile, it flashes the light theme for a second and then returns to dark.

The only way I can get it to be light is to change the dark mode in the phone’s display settings.

Looks like someone has already reported the issue:

Thanks, I didn’t check Github. I’ll follow the issue there.

Check battery saver on phone. If on it turns the background dark.
