The idea is to be able to control the device from HA and Alexa at the same time.

You can use devices which are integrated into HA through alexa by using alexa integration or nabu casa. Other than these straight forward methods there are also some work arounds to control those devices which are integrated with HA through alexa, this will include zigbee devices too.
But the reverse is not possible. If you have any device which is configured with alexa and not HA cannot be controlled with HA.
