Pairing Aeotec button without hub (Z2M)

I’m very new to HA, bought an Aeotec Button that I’m trying to pair with HA running Z2M.

I’ve got Z2M in Permit Join (all) and can see as much in the log, and am holding the reset button on the back of the button till the LED indicator turns red. It starts flashing red and green, which the Aeotec docs say means its looking for connection, but its not showing up in Z2M.

The Aeotec site says a hub is required, but I thought given the button is Zigbee that I shouldn’t need one to use it with HA.

This is the first Zigbee device I’ve tried to add to HA so I’m almost certain I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what.

Sorry to jump in without a solution, but were you able to figure this out? I’m in exactly the same position. Aeotec seem insistent that a SmartThings hub is required, but my understanding was that wouldn’t be necessary to connect to HA.
