I recently installed an ecobee Thermostat Premium with a total of (3) SmartSensors. Everything is running perfectly on the ecobee app.
I now want to integrate the ecobee system into Home Assistant. From what I have read, this should be done through HomeKit since the ecobee developer program is no longer active. I have gone into the menu system on the thermostat and enabled HomeKit which then displayed the HomeKit setup code. This code appeared along with a message that says “To add you ecobee as a HomeKit accessory, simply use the camera on your IOS device to scan the QR code below.” The problem with that is that I do not own an IOS device or have HomeKit setup anywhere but in HA. (I currently have a Leviton switch/occupancy sensor working fine in the HomeKit integration.)
I am running HA on a VMWare virtual machine on a Windows 11 computer. I can ping the thermostat from Windows 11 without any issues. The thermostat is connected to the 5GHz band of my Wi-Fi, which ecobee says is fine for the Smart Thermostat Premium. I am also running NordVPN on the Windows 11 computer and access Home Assistant remotely through NordVPN’s Meshnet (which has been working flawlessly).
Since enabling HomeKit on the thermostat, it has never shown up in the discovered section of HA. When I go into the HomeKit integration and click “Add Entry”, the thermostat does appear in the list as shown below. However, when I select that option and click “Submit”, it just spins and spins and never gets to a point where I can enter the setup code.
Any advice or tips on how to get this thermostat connected would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
