Pairing Philips Hue to Zigbee

I’ve purchased some Philips Hue landscaping lights. Do I need the bridge to do the initial pairing with my zigbee hub? They aren’t showing as discoverable.

If I do need a bridge, does DIYHue have that ability?

They haven’t been paired before so they don’t need to be unpaired.

Thanks

What hub / how are you running Zigbee?

Zooz 800 LR stick.

Zooz is a Z-wave stick, Hue is Zigbee. You need a Zigbee stick.

You don’t specify what kind of Hue lamps you are planning on integrating, but I see Zigbee2MQTT supports some(most? all?) of them. | Zigbee2MQTT

Get a coordinator that is supported by Z2M and you should be good. Be aware that you might need more routers (bulbs for example) to get the needed range for outdoor lighting.

Sorry my bad. My zigbee is Sonoff 3.0

If they aren’t showing as discoverable, you don’t need a Hue hub to reset them. Just a Hue Dimmer (either gen1 or gen 2). I keep one on hand to reset Hue bulbs for friends. It’s not even paired to my mesh. It just sits in a drawer. lol You can pick one up for about $30-$40 US.

The process is to hold the dimmer about 3-6 inches from the bulb and hold the top and button buttons (on and off buttons) together for about 10 seconds. The bulb should pulse 3 times and then come on steady. The light on the remote will turn green as well. Do not release the buttons until this happens. Once you get to this step, the bulbs should then be discoverable. In either ZHA or Z2M, enable joining and the bulbs should be picked up quickly.

Got it. So it sounds like I do need something (either the dimmer or the hub) for the initial pairing.

Well, typically no. New bulbs should be picked up automatically without requiring anything. But, for used bulbs (or sometimes stubborn bulbs), all you need is a dimmer. If you’re using Hue bulbs in your mesh, it’s a good idea to keep a dimmer on hand should you ever have to re-pair your bulbs. Do NOT get a hue hub unless you are going to do something like the Hue Sync Box or something like that.

Which coordinator are you using, ZHA (built into HA) or Zigbee2MQTT?

These are all landscaping lights - some are the Lily lights and some are the Calla. They’re all brand new, just out of the box. I’ll fiddle with them a little bit more before buying either a dimmer or a bridge.

You don’t need a bridge. You need to set up either ZHA or Z2M with your Sonoff stick.

I’m running ZHA already and have 41 devices on my network but it still doesn’t see the light when I add device under the entries. Is there something else I need to do?

Probably either out of range (see my previous post on that) or that you might need to put the lights in pairing mode. If your device supports bluetooth you can reset with that. If not try a dimmer. I got the first one to pair! Here’s what I did. I’m using ZHA but went in and read the details on the light on the Zigbee2MQTT page. I connected the light via Bluetooth with the Philips Hue app, ran all of the updates, then did a factory reset. When it came back up from the factory reset, it paired. Thanks everyone for the tips. They got me there.

Buy one of these and it will help you reset any hue bulb that’s not pairing correctly.

You literally hold it next to the bulb and press the top and bottom button simultaneously. After a few seconds the bulb will flash indicating a factory reset.
