PANDA e-ink BLE Electronic Shelf Label (ESL)

I reported to them, I’ll update when they reply

Yes, I use this to send a picture to one of my displays daily :slightly_smiling_face:

Save your PNG in Home Assistant, for example at /config/www/panda.png, then run this from Developer Tools → Actions → YAML:

action: panda_esl.write
target:
  device_id: YOUR_DEVICE_ID
data:
  background: white
  payload:
    - type: dlimg
      url: /config/www/panda.png
      x: 0
      "y": 0
      xsize: 400
      ysize: 300
      mode: fit

Replace YOUR_DEVICE_ID with your PANDA device ID. This example uses the 4.2-inch display; adjust xsize and ysize for yours:

  • 2.13-inch: 256 × 128
  • 2.66-inch: 296 × 152
  • 3.5-inch: 360 × 240
  • 4.2-inch: 400 × 300

The url field also accepts a direct HTTP/HTTPS link to a PNG. mode: fit keeps the whole image visible without cropping. For best results, I prepare the image at the display’s resolution using black, white and red. ChatGPT does this really well (send it an image and ask for a black/white/red version).

In the end I had to buy another brand - luckily they ship to EU. However I have some BT connection issue, it needs to retry many times and maybe obtain the connection. In esp log I see state 133 error. With Panda is it better? Another question about fonts, looks like the edges are not smooth. Notice your screenshot same issue, is there not away to make the edges smoother?
Thanks

You should have an esp32 in some proximity, mine is a few meters away. If it fails for some reason then my integration automatically retries, it eventually succeeded. I had similar issues that were resolved once I added the automatic retries in my integration. As for the smooth fonts, it’s partly due to the resolution and limited colors. The bigger screen models are already much better, and I’m guessing different fonts are better, The integration allows you to use any font you want, I haven’t explored it enough.

I am in the US and also can’t find these in Aliexpress. The links here don’t work (404) nor do manual searches. Any way to purchase in the US? I can see these being very useful.

Yeah, these are really useful and I use more and more of them personally. I know AliExpress has trouble with the US over tariffs and in Europe right now there’s a different problem related to some recycling law that was passed. I’ll again inquire with the company if they can come up with an easier solution for ordering, it’s really annoying how difficult this became recently. I’ll keep the community updated once I hear back from them.

Panda team sent me this message:
~
We are building an overseas independent website to avoid our products being blocked due to AliExpress’s rule restrictions.

So I guess we just need to wait a bit.

Hello

Do you think these ESL will be compatible?

Thanhs!

Aliexpress is so annoying… that link doesn’t work for me, maybe send a screenshot?

Can you see who the seller is? This looks exactly like the products I have but I’m not 100% sure. If you can tell me who the seller is, I can verify with the company

Wirelesslinkx Store

I asked them, they say it’s not their products. It does look exactly like it though, so if you’re feeling adventures, willing to take a risk, and are a little computer savvy, then you can order and when it arrives I can see if we can reverse engineer it together and add support, but I cannot guarantee it. I’m still waiting for them to get their store finalized, they said it’s coming.

I ended up buying this model.

The store is: JSJ ESL Electronic Shelf Label Store

The 4.20-inch model is very well priced, and the communication protocol is Bluetooth.

Once it arrives, I’ll let you know if I can get it working with your integration.

New link, that Panda team sent me.
Currently everywhere except the US and Germany, apparently, and they’re working on opening it up there as well, as well as adding the other types of tags.

I am struggling to make this work. Should I stop wasting my time? Can you post a current link of anything that will work that I can buy in US?

This doesn’t look like any of the Panda models, no, are you sure it’s even Bluetooth and not NFC? In any case, I know the Panda team are working on opening their store to the US, there are various issues, tariffs and such, that complicate things a bit for them I guess, but they told me they’re working on it and I’ll update as soon as I know something.
Tell me, which mobile app is this tag working with? Leave Home Assistant aside for now, how do you today send something to the tag?

its not your fault at all . I bought it from the panda store on Aliexpress. Somebody claiming to be panda is email me constantly asking if i need help. I have not made the tag work with anything. I have not tried yet. I will and keep you posted.

I figured it out.

  1. If the number you keep getting message from is “+86 150 1174 0298” then that’s legit, that’s Panda customer support, and they’re very nice, you can talk to them, it’s not a con.
  2. I found your tag. Or better yet, I matched the serial number to a different Panda product I have. The bottom line is that this tag of yours is NFC and not Bluetooth. So Home Assistant will not be able to flash it.
When I just started with Panda I accidentally got a few NFC ones as well. So these are useless to connect to home assistant, but what you can do is flash them directly from the phone. I ended up taking some family photos, using ChatGPT to turn them into 4 colors, then flashed them onto these tags. So they’re not controlled from Home Assistant but at least they’re nice looking photo frames. This is their NFC app:
    https://github.com/pandaeink/apps/releases/download/apps/ShowMore_2.4.0.apk
    Authorization code:lix0-4BYd-Ib7%

That’s what I used. So unrelated to the integration, but at least you can make sure it’s not a paperweight.
