Have tried for the first time to install HA on a Ubuntu 16.04 laptop. Using Virtual Env. But when I try to get the path for use in autostart using whereis hass it return an empty path. Only hass:
How can I find the path?

hass is not in the path unless you souce the activate script.
So, on my pc I have to run
source /srv/homeassistant/bin/activate
and then
which hass
would return /srv/homeassistant/bin/hass
Just go back to the install instructions you followed and it should point you in the right direction.
