People integration quesitons

Hello, all. I have a question about the Person integration.

My HA Container instance has been online since before the Person integration was introduced. Since initial onboarding occurred before People was available, my user account, call the user ID “john”, is shown in the Users tab of the People configuration dialog as the owner of the HA installation, but not in the People tab.

Can I create a person called “john” and have it linked it to my existing account so there is only one ‘john’ trying to log into HA?

Also concering the Persons integration, I have a device tracker question. I’m playing with ESPHome’s esp32_ble_tracker. It works reasonably, considering the cost, but it exposes presence as a binary sensor. I can make that be of “device_type” presence in HA, but that doesn’t make it a device_tracker so I can’t assign it to a Person.

Is there a workaround? Is there any way to turn a binary_sensor into a device_tracker?

I’ve also been using HA since before the person integration was created. I just don’t bother with it, one way or the other.
