I’ve been using my Raspberry Pi 3B for quite some time and have recently just updated to the latest version of Home Assistant, after nearly 2 years of not having done so. I bought a new micro SD card and redid my whole setup from scratch (minus the old hass configuration yaml files, obviously).
My question to you guys is about performance. I sometimes feel as if my Home Assistant is a bit “slow” to react. A major performance issue I’ve been running into, is it not reflecting the real state of IKEA Tradfri lights: they appear to be turned on in hass, while they’re in fact turned off. If I click on a light in hass to turn it on, it will physically turn on, yet will remain displayed as turned off in hass (until I reload the Tradfri integration).
So my question here is:
What hardware do you guys run your hass on?
Has anyone experienced any similar issued?
Note that on the same raspberry pi, I run Home Assistant, ZWave JS UI, pi-hole, and Portainer, all of them running as docker compose containers.
Get a cheap second hand NUC or NUC-like and put HA on that, I have my instance in a Virtual Box headless virtual machine setup on my NUC5i7RYH and I have a passive cooled case for it from Akasa to keep it silent.
Everything is near instant for me and the only issue I have atm which I will be sorting once I have the funds is the cloud reliant air purifier since the app for it is constantly failing for me now (which breaks the intergration link).
Thanks for the tip! I actually have a few Raspberry Pi 5 laying around, and when testing those, it works flawlessly. I just want to extend the lifespan of my Raspberry Pi 3B as long as I can.
Yea if you have 5’s use one of them instead and invest in a SSD hat for it so you are not reliant on the microSD.
I have a Pi3 that is sitting in a box since I don’t know what I want to do with with at the moment (was using it at one point as a headless system I could remote into when I needed to check network settings at the parents place and not distrub them from using the PC they have at the time when they are on it).
