Philips Hue to HomeKit - direct or via Home Assistant

Hi all,

Just wondering what everyone would consider “best practice” for connecting bridge devices to their HomeKit and Home Assistant setup.

With something like Philips Hue for instance, would you connect it to both HomeKit directly and Home Assistant at the same time? (in this case your iDevices via HomeKit would handle manual control of the lights and HA would handle automation)

Or would you just connect Hue to Home Assistant and re-publish the lights via the HomeKit integration? (in this case HA would handle manual operation and automation)

Are there any benefits to running it one way or the other, or is it 6 of one and a half dozen of the other?

I’ve always connected my ‘hub’ solutions that have direct ability directly. So my Hue, directly connects to Homekit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Home Assistant. I’ve never had any conflicts that I can remember. Same route for Ikea, Lutron, Osram.

Seems best to get the routes between main coordinators as direct as possible.

I’m late to the party, but wondering what your experience is if youve tried it? Current set up is direct to homekit from hue, but considering going through home assistant for one reason: logging. If i turn off a light in homekit, home assistant just says the light was turned off now, but if I do it through home assistant, home assistant will tell me that homekit turned off the light

I know this is an old topic, but have others started to determine what is best practice in this scenario?
