Philips outdoor motion sensor - erratic update interval?

Hello,

I’m encountering problems with the HUE outdoor motion sensor.
The update refresh rate seems very erratic; it seems it dectects only certain movements of a series, even in the meanwhile I crossed in front of it several times.
It’s tricky to explain so I did some tests, and these are the results according to Hassio registry:

  1. 17:03 Motion Sensor (2) detected motion
  2. 17:12 Motion Sensor (2) cleared (no motion detected)
  3. 17:16 Motion Sensor (2) detected motion
  4. 17:19 Motion Sensor (2) cleared (no motion detected)

Actually, I walked continuously in the area (dozen of times) between 1 and 4 intervals, so in seems only certain movements were detected.
The problems is when the movement should trigger a NodeRED flow turning on a garden lamp for 120 seconds… and this gets unexpectedly turned off while I’m crossing the area.

I’ve two HUE motions sensors and they are both affected by the same issue, while the Tradfri (Ikea) seem to work correctly.

I can’t understand if this a “bug” or an expected behaviour and I just need to properly configure NodeRED.

Any help?

What zigbee environment are you using the device in. More details the better.

I think the Hue Outdoor Motion sensor is a very cantankerous device. I have found it to drop off my zigbee2mqtt network randomly. And if you look at the zigbee2mqtt documentation for the device, there are a number of issues cited. I’m not too happy with it so far. I too have Ikea motion sensors and Third Reality units, but working well. You might have a look at this guys pretty detailed review of motion sensors, not directly to your devices issues, but maybe helpful.

Also check your firmware revision.

Good luck!

Hello!
Sorry for the late answer…
I dind’t specify that I’m using Hassio on a Rpi 4, with the Deconz dongle… so I’m not using the HUE gateway!
Looking here and there, I’ve found other people having similar issues, but since the behaviour is quite randomic, it’s difficult to say if the root issue is the same.
