Phillips Hue: Play light bar double pack

Hello all

I Hope you are Well.

I am looking at the Phillips Hue Play light bar double pack for attaching to the Back of my TV.

In the Specifications it says that they Support Zigbee but then also says that the Hue Bridge is Required.

Does anyone know if I would be able to use these Lights with Home Assistant through Zigbee and without the Hue Bridge?

I have the Sonoff Zigbee Dongle P which has a few Devices Connected to it already.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Yes, should be supported in both Z2M and ZHA.

The Hue bridge is NOT required if you already have a ZigBee coordinator as @fleskefjes mentioned. I have several of these connected via Z2M…

Hello

Thanks for the Reply.

Good to know that the HUE Bridge is not required if I already have a Coordinator.

If I place the Two Lights on the Back of the TV, actually on the VESA Stand, one on each End will the Light be distributed evenly behind the TV?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

I’d say yes, but I only use one with my TV. I combined the bar with a Hue light strip for a multi-colored effect.

Hello

Thanks, I just want to be sure before hand, as you know, they are not cheap :frowning:

No they are not. I have a small fortune in Hue lights :grimacing:

Hello all

Well, I received the Hue Play Lights Yesterday.

I initially had an issue where Zigbee recognised the Play Lights but all of the Entities were Unavailable.

I was not aware that I had to Add a couple of lines to the Configuration.yaml file:

discovery:

  • philips_hue:*

Once this was done and Home Assistant was Restarted, All of the Entities showed up.

I ended up attaching the Two Play Lights to the Back of the TV one at the Left End of the VESA Mount Bar and the other at the Right End of the VESA Mount Bar, with Both Lights facing the Wall, or the Venetian Blinds.

One advantage of attaching them to the VESA Mount is that I did not have to Stick them to the Back of the TV.

Also, if I change my TV, which will be soon, I will not have to Remove the Lights.

One Issue, or annoyance really, is that if the Venetian Blinds are Partially Open then there are a couple of Highlights from the Lights showing on the Blinds.

If I Close the Blinds then the Highlights are not there.

Not a real Issue, more of an annoyance, I just need to Close the Blinds when I Watch a Movie.

I have also Set the Automations to only Run After Sunset which then Turns Off the Room Light and Turns on the Play Lights.

I am relatively Happy with the Result, I am still Playing with the Colour, Brightness and Colour Temperature but, at the moment, they are Set at:

Brightness: 75%
Colour: Blue (0:0:255)
Colour Temperature: 3000k

Thanks

Kevin
