I have a Pi 3 B+ with everything running of a 2.5" SSD. I have now got a Pi 4 with a Retroflag NESPi 4 Case for Raspberry Pi 4. What is the easiest way to move stuff across, my understanding is I cant just switch over the SD and SSD?
Hi funkytwig,
Full backup of the old. Save it so somewhere external that you can get to. Not a USB drive, you can’t mount those. Load HAOS on the new. Install samba or ssh or something to pull in the backup file. Restore the backup. Move any hardware over you are keeping.
If you don’t know about your backup and restore process from a blank machine, practice it first. (So stuff isn’t lost) before you destroy old stuff.
Thanks, so this is full backup, not config backup. Is there a useful link for this. Before I do restore I set up a new hassio box and restore from old one?
Also as my current one is 1GB so 2GB should be good or should I get a new one that is 4 or 8GB. will 2GB be significantly better. Currently I am using about 600MB but it is using 300MB swap (which seems odd, not sure why it is not using all the core).
Memory, 4gb I would pick.
If you already have a 2Gb version and cant return it for a 4Gbbversion then stick with it.
A shift from 1Gb to 2Gb is huge and probably more felt than from 2Gb to 4Gb.
I would also take a full backup and then try to just move things over and see if it starts up.
If it does not, then do the restore.
