As a user I would like to be able to change the configuration of an existing entry of that HA integration.
I have moved my Pi-Hole from a helm chart to a LCX container. This involved a port change. While I could simply remove the configuration and add a new one, I would like to keep the current one to retain data.
Pihole is an addon and not related to Home Assistant features.
Please see the source of the software you are using for new features.
(Unless you are talking about the PiHole HA integration. You are not very clear.)

I have updated my initial post and the title.
Not using this integration but when changing (physical) esphome nodes I just remove it (the integration) and add it again - all my (historical) data of the device is retained. 
Did you try it yet?
