Pi-hole slows down traffic?

Yesterday I installed Pi-hole and the Pi-hole component. When I checked my network speed component after a while I saw, that the speed dropped right after I installed Pi-hole.
After I changed the DNS in my Router to the Google DNS the speed went back to normal.

  • Isn’t only the DNS traffic going through Pi-hole?
  • Why does it affect my overall network speed or at least the speed tests of the component?

What if you try using your browser to connect to speedtest.net?
