Pi satellite

So I have a pi 3 which I thought would be perfect as a pi satellite, so I just want to confirm I’ll order to correct items.

I have a pi 3 with so card, case and it looks like it has gpio pins. So in theory all I should need is a microphone and speaker, In was thinking of using this as the microphone https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/raspberry-pi-hats-add-ons/1743272 but I’m not sure what id need for speakers. Im not sure if this board has connections for a speaker but my pi has a 3.5mm jack so that should work.

Please can anyone confirm if I have everything covered or would I need anything else? Obviously I’m aware I’ll need some form of speaker.

I have a Pi3 connected to an anker powerconf s330 usb speaker microphone running a local custom wake word. It does work but triggers twice sometimes. Still early days. I don’t know about your other hardware but the RPi3 should be fine.

So would it be better to use pi hat which I linked with a speaker or get something like what you have? I just have a spare pi and just looking for the best, most reliable and cheapest way

The anker unit is definitely easy as it has a usb connection. If you want something simple it doesn’t get much easier than plugging in a usb. If you are looking to replace the current generation of smart devices by Google, Apple, or other’s you will need to lower your expectations or wait as it is early days and this is not an easy problem to solve with open source, and budget consistent solutions.

No problem, thanks for the advice. I think I’ll still research it but I’ll probably just wait

I was suffering the triggers-twice issue too with my S330/Pi 4. That only lasted some hours before the software became more-or-less unresponsive, despite reboots.

This was with the wyoming-satellite build. I’ve now reverted for the time being to the deprecated homeassistant-satellite build, which for me works more predictably.

So it’s still in its infancy then
