I just want to see if Home Assistance OS recognises the built-in RTC on a Pi5?
I know I need to attach a battery but because Home Assistance OS is designed as an appliance, I could not add one on a Pi4.
As it is built in on a Pi5. I just wanted clarification?
Hello!
As far as I understand it the RTC once set would just work - If the HAOS syncs time with the internet it shouldn’t need one to work anyway. But searching the forum post talks about the charging of the RTC Raspberry Pi 5 - Charging the RTC-Battery? - Configuration - Home Assistant Community (home-assistant.io)
HAOS is just software, do you mean a Home Assistant Green, Yellow,…? That does not match with you naming an RPI5. For RPI, follow manufacturer docs. On an RPI5 it can work on 5v (as long as it is plugged in) or you can attach a battery. If the battery is rechagable, you also need to enable recharging. But HA does not need to do anything afaik, except for allowing you to send the commands to enable RTC recharging, I guess? But you should also be able to do that by booting a plain Raspi OS once.
If you want to test it, cut of the RPI from internet, shutdown the host and restart. If it has time, you’re set. If you want to test the battery aswell, unplug it a period of time inbetween.
