Just an idea I had yesterday, doesn’t do much yet but I’m playing around with the idea of gestures and multitouch. I like the current dashboards/floorplan but I still find myself over thinking how to use them. Same with my phone, if this was a quick app that just allowed me to execute an action with a gesture I think I would use it more.
Single finger up allows you turn lights on, down allows you to turn them off. Two finger up/down turns them all on/off. I didn’t bother making it pretty or adding labels as it’s the interaction I’m playing with. Ideally when you swipe up only lights that are off appear or are shown differently so it’s obvious. How about four finger up/down controls the volume or dim the lights? Double tap turns on everything or swipe right brings up buttons to control the tv. Make a clockwise fan motion to turn on the ceiling fan.
