Plex Integration not updating Lovelace Card

I just added the plex integration. Connected it to plex. I then went to my fire tv and started a move and the fire tv showed up as a device. It lets me browse movies and start a movie from the lovelace plex card. The only issue is the sensor only shows me watching a move if I start it from my fire tv. If I start one from the lovelace media card it never updates the sensor to show I am watching a movie. Also the media card I started playing the movie from never updates and shows what is playing along with the image of the movie. It is just blank with a play button. Thanks!

so I just played around with it a little more. It seems when playing a movie from the dashboard using the plex card it is playing it on the device directly, but not through plex. So if I hit home on my fire tv you can still hear the audio kind of like when streaming music and if you go to plex it doesn’t show anything playing. So it looks like it is streaming it on the device from the plex server, just not through the plex app on the firetv.

Hope that makes sense. Is there a way to fix that?

Seems related to this as-of-yet unresolved issue in Plex AndroidTV clients: https://forums.plex.tv/t/no-session-status-when-starting-playback-on-shield-over-remote-control-api/555067

Yep! That seems to be it. I see you talked about it for a while but the thread was eventually closed. It is happening on both by fire tv and my fire cube. It is a great integration, just wish it reported properly after starting to play a vid. It is a big missing piece in the functionality of the integration.

Sorry, I can’t fix this on the integration side (at least from what I understand). The info simply isn’t available over the APIs in this situation. I’ll keep chasing Plex to see if they can address this on the app side.

Cool, I am also a developer so if you need any help let me know. Would be glad to see if I could figure something out. Do you know of any other media players that report correctly and work as well as plex?

This problem is specific to the AndroidTV-based Plex clients. All other Plex clients that I’ve tested work fine (e.g., Plex Web, iOS, desktop, Roku, AppleTV).

I believe this is a bug on the AndroidTV Plex client that I’ve reported to them.
