POE Injector advice

Hi all. Hope someone can help. I just bought a Hikvision DS-2CD2347G2-LU (Manual link here) and I’m trying to find out what power injector I need.

Will a 24v unifi injector (such as a GP-A240-050G) with a 24v supply work or do I need one that meets the 802.3af/at standard? Didn’t realise injectors could be so complicated.

The Hikvision manual says that the power supply input voltage will need to conform to IEC60950-1 which I know the unifi injectors do.

I can’t find any information about the PoE standards your camera supports in the manual you linked. But I’d take a wild guess and say it’s probably 802.3af or at. (Also commonly known as PoE and PoE+)
Edit: Looked it up in the Datasheet and it’s 802.3af but you can also use a 802.3at injector.

Unifis 24V PoE Injectors are Passive PoE. No negotiation and basically “always on” which will most likely fry anything that does not support passive PoE.
IEEE standardized PoE is at a higher voltage at around 48V (+/-10).

So you are looking a for a PoE Injector that does 802.3af or 802.3at. They are usually a bit more expensive than passive PoE injectors.

Thanks so much for this.

I wonder if I’m better off spending £5-£10 more for an 802.3af 4 port switch for future proofing.

£5-£10 more for a 4(?) port 802.3af switch sounds too good to be true. Make sure you don’t buy one of these cheap PoE extenders(?).

TP Link has a good unmanaged PoE Switch for under £50. TL-SG1005P

One thought for you I frequently use. Managed switches supported by Home Assistant can be monitored and the power over ethernet can be cycled. Great for remote devices that need an occasional kick.

According to the datasheet found here you need one that is 802.3af compliant.

Good thought. Thanks. It would be good to get the Hikvision camera on a different VLAN. A feature my Linksys Velop does not support.

As for recommendations, I’ve had two of these running for about a year with no problems.
