Porting an existing installation

Hi All,

I’m running HASS inside a virtual machine on an old windows machine. It’s an old surface just docked.

I can’t install the base HASS version because of the bios setup.

Issue being it’s very slunstable, anything that knocks windows etc and it’s down.

So I’m wanting to move to an Intel nuc which I already have.

So ,

  1. is there a way to port my current setup and settings devices etc over to the new install. Or is that a no go?

  2. I have a very limited budget, I’d like a machine that runs a bit like ST or hubitat, their bases are muc more reliable. Can I creat that with hass. A HA yellow seems really expensive!

Thoughts?

TIA

best bet is to do a backup, install fresh setup on new kit and restore from backup on Onboarding page.

The only issues you may have are the new kit will change the IP address so some stuff may need a bit of reconfiguring, like MQTT settings.

Can confirm that creating a full backup on the existing install and restoring it on the new device will work. I just went through a migration myself.

Do yourself a favor and change the IP that the surface is using over to the NUC and it’ll save a bunch of reconfiguring.

For zigbee/zwave, don’t forget to update the port if you have the dongles configured by USB port. Or, move them to using the device ID instead.

So, I’ve managed, although i reckon most of it’s been a fluke.

I havent had to change any ip addresses i just sorted out the port forwarding on the router.

Zigbee has again fluked its way over.

Only issue now is i’m unable to access the www/ folder where i’ve stored images on the new machine. i get forbidden. Any ideas?
