Possible to use z-wave development kit?

New to z-wave & home-assistant.io. So point me in the right direction and I’ll edit my question to be more on target.

I have a z-wave development kit:

… and wondered if it could be used instead of the z-wave USB dongles commonly talked about here?

Added later:
It appears the z-wave development kit is worthless w/o the z-wave SDK. And, despite z-wave starting to support open source efforts (apparently stating in September '16), I can not find the z-wave SDK for the asking (out side of protected sites).

I am starting to wonder how home-assistant.io was able to integrate z-wave USB support as I read that had yet to be published by Sigma in their open source efforts.

@st2000 Sigma did open source some of their code but not everything. Home-Assistant uses the OpenZwave open source libraries but it is possible to use a different Zwave library. If you use an alternate library you might be on your own with support. If you have Zwave, experience you might want to consider connecting with the OpenZwave developers.
