Power Usage Automation

I am looking to monitor the power usage of my portable AC and determine what mode it is in based on the power usage. I bought a Shelly Plus Plug but the update interval can be measured in the tens of minutes because it only updates when there is a big change in the load. The difference between the AC’s modes is only a few dozen watts so this won’t work.

Is there a way to increase the interval of the power statistic updating or do I need a different plug? What hardware are most people using for this sort of fine-grained power usage monitoring?

I use zigbee based smart plugs myself at this time and I have one setup to monitor the current pulled from the washing machine to tell me when its running, idle or in an off state and I have another that I am using as a watt meter in my dashboard for my main PC to monitor the power draw of the system.

They update pretty much instantly as soon as power draw is detected.

I am using several zigbee based plugs for this sake. I’ve got Aqara, Miijia and Tuya kinds.

Yes, after installing esphome on your plug you have all the freedom to do this :raised_hands:

(The update interval from the template is set to 10 seconds, you can change it to 0.1s, 0.5s, 1s or whatever you like :clock1:)

Thanks everyone!
