Hi,
I have the following problem. GPS tracking of my iPhone for presence detection is much too unstable. I have therefore set upp an iBeacon at home which works just fine together with Owntracks. At the same time I have a Volvo which I am tracking, but it uses GPS.
The problem I face is that it seems that even if I use iBeacon the zone still looks for the GPS first.
I have tried the following:
-
Making the home zone passive (not reading GPS). Works fine with the iPhone but the car disappears.
-
Making another adjacent zone Drive that is not passive. The car reappears but the iPhone also appears in Drive and not in Home.
-
Reducing the range of Drive to 5 (the car is very precis). No effect as it seems that the signal of iPhone is much less precise and if it covers the Drive zone even if the center of it is not in the zone the iPhone is considered to be in the zone.
-
Reducing the max gps accuracy of Owntracks to 10 meters hoping it would ignore inaccurate gps-measurements and only return the signal of the iBeacon. This seems to have a positive effect when I am in the home zone, but makes the gps tracking less useful the I am away.
All of the above are less than attractive compromises. Overall it is not reliable. Delays can be several minutes.
Have I exhausted the list of alternative solutions?
Is there a way to make the zone chose iBeacon before GPS wen determining which zone the device is in? Otherwise, is this a feature that can be developed?
Any help or input is appreciated.
