This is in the same vein as Tasker + MQTT, except it uses Automate, which I found to have a cleaner, more logical design. You can install directly from the app three Flows that sends data compatible with the Owntracks component. The Flows are set to have passive device tracking behavior to conservative battery, but you can tune them in the Flow editor yourself. Automate or Tasker should be able to keep up to date with Android changes better than Owntracks itself.
