I am currently trying to put my newly purchased HA Yellow into operation and am currently having the problem of getting a USB WLan stick to work.
I absolutely need Wlan as a 2nd independent network connection to integrate my inverter. Previously I had my HA system running on an Odroid and could easily integrate the Wlan stick via USB.
Does anyone have any idea why the system does not recognize the USB stick and whether it is even possible to retrofit wifi?
You are best just to setup a dedicated IOT wifi network if you want to keep things isolated via the router then just connect the HA instance via ethernet to it and just manage access using VLAN’s.
I have a 2nd wifi running exactly for this application. My only problem is that my inverter needs to connect to HA on a different subnet. The first connection of the inverter is via LAN, which connects the inverter to the internet.
It cannot be connected to HA in the same subnet.
Now I try the following:
I will connect the inverter to the 2nd LAN and set up the Wifi connection via the subnet in which the HA is also running.
I haven’t figured this out yet because the solar system was set up by a company and they connected to the existing network at the time.
You need to look into the inverter settings manual and see where are the IP settings so that you can get it on the same IP range as your main network if that is the core issue.
Static IP’s are only set on the client side when there is no DHCP server (router/modem) available at the time of setup to set them via the mac address on the DHCP server side and you want to make sure it does not change when new hardware is installed to replace the network gear you setup with the same IP network settings.
