Problems with Strings in Automation-conditions

Hey Community,

i have two problematic automations in wich strings from sensors are beeing checked.
1.: When vacuum changes from cleaning to docked
2.: when rhaspberry pi powermeter changes to unavailable

both automations do not fire at the occurencies and I think it’s a problem of the spelling…
in the first automations I tried “cleaning”, ‘cleaning’, cleaning, “reinigen”, ‘reinigen’, reinigen and nothing happens.
in my german home-assistant the sensor state seems to be “reinigen” but the automation doesn’t fire :frowning:.

Any advice on how to approach the problem would be appreciated .

Thanks in Advance an Greetings from germany

Sebastian

You should use the states tab under delevopers tools to check what the actual states of the devices are.
You can use an input text to store transitory values but the states you list would seem to be stable (non transitory) values.
If, when you have them, you still can’t get it to work, post back with what you found and your current automations.

hi mutt,
your approach helped me regarding the rhaspberry - Thank you very much!

regarding the vacuum I’ll try this when I’m home again - but I think the entity states unter developer tools will help me now as I understand how to do this
Great!!!
Thanks again and have a nice day !!!

Greetings!

I’m biased, but it’s a pleasure to help someone who takes the breadcrumbs, works out there is a path and gets to the solution. Further they demonstrate that their understanding has moved on and will be able to use similar techniques in future to help themselves and potentially others
