Question about hardware for infra red remote with ESP8266 boards

Hi All

I have a ton of ESP8266 boards kicking around. Some I’m using for BLE to connect to temperature sensors which has been working great.

I now also want to build an IR Remote with the ESP8266. Just wondering if there is any specific IR emitter/receiver that works best? I had a quick look and there appear to be a ton of various options, not sure if there are any caveats.

Get a TSOP38238 from a reputable retailer - not just Aliexpress.

Same with your 950nm IR LED, buy from the same source and you should avoid any issues.

You’ll need a suitable resistor for your LED - they typically have 1.5V-2V forward voltage so depending on the max current you should go with a value between 75ohms to 100ohms I think.

Double check the maths when you get the gear.
