Questions regarding Aqara T1 valve controller installation

I’ve almost completed migrating all of my automations and devices from my Hubitat C8 Pro to my Home Assistant Green. The last two remaining are my thermostats and Aqara T1 valve controller. The T1 is currently paired with my Hubitat using a generic Zigbee driver. Searching for info regarding paring the T1 with HA I’ve seen a couple that say they use Matter. Can someone please tell me if:

  1. Can install the T1 using Zigbee, or should I use Matter?
  2. Do I need an Aqara hub involved (e.g. M3), as I saw in one video?

-Thanks

If it works over ZigBee bow, it is likely to work (without a hub) with ZigBee in HA. Are you using ZHA or Zigbee2mqtt?

The steps to add it should be:

  • Unpair it from Habitat ZigBee
  • Pair it to HA Zigbee
  • Use it in whichever way you want

I have a ZBT-1 running ZHA.

Speaking of unpairing, I have NOT been unpairing devices from my Hubitat that I have ported over to HA. Just factory reset them, then import into HA. I currently disable them in HA, in case I had to revert back from HA to Hubitat. But soon the Hubitat will be going away.

-Thanks

That’s ok, reset also works, it unpairs it on the device side, which works perfectly fine.

Wait you pair them to HA, then disable them and continue using them in Hubitat? That works? Cause it should not.

No, they are disabled in Hubitat. Also, in HA I’m using the Hubitat integration. So all of my devices in Hubitat were made available in HA. Then I replicated all of my automations. Now I’m moving devices over to HA. Almost done!

Aah I remember one of your first posts on the subject, best of luck finishing up!
If you have the time and energy, I think it would be interesting to know how your journey went for other Hubitat users, so consider a write up on the whole experience when you’re done.

It certainly has been an experience! I’m really enjoying learning HA though.

You can install it using Zigbee. It’s supported in Z2M, but doesn’t seem to be mentioned at all in either ZHA quirks or Blakadder’s zigbee repository, so you might have issues pairing it in ZHA.

No, you’re using HA now. If you have a zigbee coordinator then you don’t need a separate manufacturer hub.

Thank you. I just migrated my thermostats. Soon I’ll be ready for the Aqara T1 and 13 water sensors. Almost done!
