Raspberry Pi 3B+: SSD, USB-Stick, or SD card?

I have outfitted a Pi with a 1TB SSD, however, I am now thinking that this is overkill given that HA OS is busybox (measured in MegaBytes). I realize that the answer is context sensitive: My install is configured to provide remote access to 6 thermostats.

I have USB memory sticks gathering dust: even if the USB / SD card. Is HA OS not write intensive? If it is not intensive, then I suspect that a garden variety Sandisk will last for 3-10 years.

HA is a big state engine doing nothing BUT Database writes…

Personally I will never deploy on an SD-no matter the perceived workload. Smaller SSD sure.

SD… No. Others may have good luck with an SD but fact is they weren’t designed to be used for this workload.
