HI All,
I would like to know from the expert here if a Raspberry Pi 4 - 8 Gig will be powerful enough to run about 50 Sonoff Lighting circuits?? I currently have about 10 Sonoff switches running and its working well.
I tried to install HA Supervisor on my i5 Linux Ubuntu but the tutorials was just to advanced for a beginner like me so using Raspberry pi is a lot simpler if it will handle a load of 50 circuits.
Thank You!
I’m unsure how to answer this.
Home Assistant is quite lightweight in it’s resource use, and if it was controlling 50 Sonoff switches, or 100 or 1000, it’s not really adding much to it’s resource use.
The work of having 50 switches connect is nothing.
The work for actually activating a switch is also really nothing, so unless you want to activate all 50 switches 100 times each within 10 seconds, then the Raspi will not feel a thing.
Even if you did that then the Raspi would handle it, but then you might see a little flick on the CPU heat and CPU usage.
There are many users that “turn off” their home when they leave for work and that can be many more actions divided over multiple different integrations based on multiple different communication technologies.
I have 20 switches and 56 sensors on my RPi 3B+. It doesn’t even begin to tax the hardware. CPU is in the single digits and memory use stays under 30%.
I think the problems come about when you start streaming audio and video, or run other components beyond the native HA on a RPi.
Thank you point taken
Thank you for your explanation point taken
Ok thanks that’s great cause am not running audio or video.
Hi, out of curiosity: do you run it with a SD card or SSD?
SD card. I bought the “Application Class 2” kind as recommended in the Getting Started guide, and I have a spare ready to go. I exclude everything I can from Recorder to keep the I/O and DB size down. It’s sitting at 32M right now. Before I knew any better, it had grown to over 3G.
Ok, thanks for this info!
32Mb for the whole system?
I am waiting for the RPi4 to become available again for a small HA setup for a friend but might as well give it a try with a RPi3 that I have.
EDIT: how much RAM is used?
