Raspberry PI with HA + Plex

Hi!
I actually have a Homebridge running on Raspberry PI Zero, but I want to make the upgrade to HA with a Raspberry Pi 4 but also I want to set up Plex on the Pi.
Will I need a PI 4 of 8gb? Or with 4gb is ok?

Thanks in advance!

Both Plex and HA are power hungry system, are you sure RPI4 is your only choices? And 8GB memory will surely needed to be the least

I searched for NAS or miniPC but the price are too high in compare to RPI4.
Thats is my principal problem :frowning:

Well go ahead and test it… hahahahaha… it might be OK for you.

A 4GB Pi4 can handle HA without issues (assuming you don’t load it up with camera recording, a gazillion databases, etc…)

Running Plex (even it your intentions are that it would never transcode) is… well… optimistic… to say the least, 4 or 8gb won’t make a difference here (IMHO)

I don’t know where OP is located, but you can get older server bare-bones pretty cheap or a “refurbished” slim desktop that would do a much better job than a Pi at running both.
Alternatively, use the Pi for HA and a lighter Nas and/or Nvidia shield for Plex / media.

I hear the PI4 is great for HA, like @mrMagoo said as long as you’re not doing video stuff.
Plex on the other hand, if you are very careful and make sure your client direct plays you might get away with it, but that’s tricky.
Especially if you share Plex.
Other users don’t get how to change the default settings.
Cheap lightly used Dell computers a plentiful on eBay.
Just find an OptiPlex with a good CPU and some decent RAM.

Just stumbled over this thread and wanted to leave a note regarding the minimum system requirements. I’m running Raspberry Pi OS in 64Bit and headless on an RP4 with only 2GB of RAM and I’m totally fine running HA (as Docker) and a Plex Server on it. One really has to make sure that Plex only runs in direct play but other than that I do not notice any performance issues. I’m also running an SMB server, PiHole and a small Wordpress site on it and have a USB ZigBee Gateway installed. When in idle, only 500MB are used on this setup.
