Raspberry Pi Zero

Has anyone tried HASS on a Raspberry Pi Zero? How well does it preform?

As the specification of a Raspberry Pi Zero look similar to a CHIP Home Assistant will work. My guess is that it’s suitable for a small setup.

It will work. But startup will be quite slow and you probably couldn’t use too many components.

I know that this is an old post, but for those who might have this question in the future, I HAVE tried HASS on a Pi 1B, a Pi Zero, and a Pi3. I didn’t have very many components at the time (maybe 12 total between switches, sensors media players and device trackers) and it ran okay on a Pi 1B and a Pi Zero, not great. The CPU constantly ran at a bit higher of a percentage (~40% at idle, spiking to 90%+ every time a speedtest.net test ran) than I liked. I worried about the effect of that on the life of my Zero. Restarting the service took about a minute or maybe a little bit more. That was frustrating, especially when I was learning the intricacies of the configuration.yaml, getting everything set up, and restarting a lot.

Like I said, there weren’t a whole lot of components in my setup at the time. I don’t think that the Zero (or the 1B) could have kept up with my current configuration. The Pi3 on the other hand, it is a dream after fussing with the other two boards. Restarting my service takes seconds and my CPU has yet to go over 30%, even while executing multiple automata.
