I have set up an NFC tag with Home Assistant, and everything works. However, I have to unlock my phone for the tag to be read, which limits the usefulness compared to a simple shortcut.
Do you know if this is related to my model, to Android, or if it’s the normal functioning of NFC reading? Oneplus Nord2 (Android 13)
Ideally, I want to keep the unlocking requirement for payments via Google Pay.
I agree, I think it’s an Android limitation. Admittedly, it makes sense both from a security and power management perspective.
Even so, I still find NFC tags to be pretty handy in a lot of random scenarios, primarily because they’re so cheap they’re practically free plus since they require a phone signed into HA, you don’t have to worry about someone using it who shouldn’t.
I agree, for the security aspect, but since I have to unlock my phone anyway, I have direct access to a shortcut on my phone screen that triggers my action, without having to approach or aim at the tag for it to be read…
As a result, it becomes less convenient in the end with NFC, in my opinion.
Ideally, we could authorize certain tags to bypass the unlock validation.
But well, I don’t work for Google…
