I have been using this for 3 or 4 years, very happily until yesterday…

So, my home wifi had not changed for years either, 3 good consumer wireless routers runngin DD-WRT and operating as true AP’s. A few weeks ago I picked up a TP-Link EAP245 for giggles and grins as I could run the controller on my Unraid server. I liked the one so well that I picked up 2 more and yesterday I turned off the old DD-WRT AP’s all together. The one thing that would not migrate to the new devices was my RT-700. And yes, I recreated the SSID and exact PW on the new AP’s. It would stay offline until I turned one of the old AP’s back on and then it was happy. So I reset the wifi on the grill and it instantly joined it’s normal SSID on the new AP’s… Great, right… NO!
The reset changed the local key on the grill, this would normally be just fine as I would have pulled it form my TuyaIoT account and went on. But, the Android app had updated and made changes to the grill the last time an update was pushed. Tuya changed key formats… now rather that 16 hex characters the key is an alpha/numeric/special string. And since the original author of the integration has not supported it since 2020, it will not work with the new format. Further research does indeed reveal that it appears that Tuya or device manufacturers have done this change to many Tuya devices.
Now, I am once again stuck with the factory app to run my smoker and really not very happy about it. HA was so handy to use, on long smokes, think 20 hours, I would have the status of the smoker control the LED lighting above the smoker so one could walk out and check on it in the middle of the night… if you wanted to. I also had automations to watch probe temps and they graphed progress and warned when I was through the stall on large meat. I also could set a start temp, wait x amount of time and the automatically bump the temp up when I was happy with smoke intake on the meat.
If I could code at all, I would love to fork this repo and bring it back to life… but that is a no go. It also appears that if I join it to the Tuya cloud to get the local key and then join it back to the app the local key now changes. I did load local Tuya and it does find the smoker, but I have no idea what I am doing in localTuya at all.
Oh well, life goes on…
