Rechargeable lithium CR123a batteries: discouraged?

Many of my Zwave battery devices use lithium CR123a batteries, and are frequently in high traffic areas. I’m considering the use of rechargeable batteries, though have seen these discouraged in many uses in the forum. Is this a general discouragement or are some people finding them to be useful?

As long as the cell has over-discharge protection built in (look for “protected” cell) and the 3.7 to 4.2V cell voltage isn’t outside the device’s input voltage range you should be ok.

As @tom_l pointed out, instead of 3v output, RCR123a batteries tend in the 3.7v range.
